2 years ago, I was reacting to every single food I ate, I’d look at a cookie and gain 5 pounds, fell asleep at 10am and 2pm every day, wasn’t building muscle, experienced intense cravings for sugar, and didn’t feel as upbeat and positive as I once had. I felt like I was in a hole that I could not get out of. I’d been dealt a body that just didn’t work.

Then, I found keto (high-fat, low-carb) and, while I was majorly skeptical, I decided to give it a shot. I kept feeling better, and better, AND better. Fast forward 2 years and I’m still going strong. Albeit, I’ve adjusted a bunch of things to assist my body in healing and, now, thriving.

  1. I just purchased your book and I am excited for this journey with my family, I am a little scared because I usually have that person say this is what you can eat and give me a list of foods I can eat. So we ill see how this goes… I pray this works for me!!

  2. Hello! I’m so thankful for palace to make a comment or ask a question. I just bought Leanne’s book, The Keto Diet. I read a lot of the beginning then went to the store to get food for the first few days. I couldn’t find Cacau butter. So I just used more of the cacau powder instead, for the bacon fudge. Heres the thing- I’m spending a ton of time in the kitchen and I’m afraid this will be hard to maintain. I made the batch of cinnamon muffins for day one and honestly, they were horrible. I checked and made them just like the recipe. I had to toss all of them. And the bacon fudge, where I used xtra cacau powder instead of cacau butter was equally horrible tasting. I had to toss those too. Changing eating as a way of life is a challenge but having to eat food that tastes horrible is not going to help. Is it okay that I’m not going to eat those things? Is there a way to do the diet with some alternatives? Like can I buy spices or dressings instead of making everything from scratch? I’m just feeling a little overwhelmed and now feeling like I’ve wasted so much expensive food. Help! Also, I am surprised to not see a few mornings with eggs and bacon or sausage. Is it okay to eat a breakfast like that instead of the fatty coffee drink?

    • Thanks so much for getting my book, Julie! Cacao butter is pure fat, while cacao powder is very low in fat, so you’d be better off replacing cacao butter with another fat, like coconut oil. I imagine the fudge turned out quite dry using cacao powder instead of cacao butter. I’m so sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy the flax muffins! If you’re new to sugar-free sweeteners, you may need to ease into it until your taste buds adjust. Perhaps stick to the simpler recipes involving just meat, veggies, and fats until you get the hang of things. Then, move onto the fancier things if you feel like it ;)

  3. hi everyone! Leanne thank you so much for being so real and down to earth….I do have a question if you don’t mind. I started keto about 2 months ago and started adding in full fat coconut milk and did great the first month and I also changed my coffee after the first month but have you had anyone start having reflux problems with coconut milk? Mine is the worst it’s been in a very long time, like years. Thank you for all you do! Love all the great information.

    • Thanks so much for your support, Kandie! It sounds like it could be a food sensitivity. Perhaps try to cutting out coconut products temporarily and see if that helps.

  5. I can’t do this keto life style without dairy, I have cheese, milk, sometimes cream and don’t have any side effects. My weight is dropping small amounts every week, nearly down a size in clothing after 7 weeks, I don’t weigh myself, only go on clothes and inches. This is a life style change and coping very well.

    • Sounds like you’re totally crushing it! If you feel great with dairy, feel free to keep it in.

  6. I’m 68 and began Keto 10 days ago. Thought I was following your ebook well so what do I need to add/change to stop wanting to sleep day and night.

    • Hey! It can take some time for your body to adjust to this new eating style, so remember to be patient with yourself. It’s also important to make sure that you’re eating enough!

  7. Hey Leanne! Thanks so much for all the helpful info you pass on to us, so helpful! I’m just gearing up here, a little over a month into eating high fat and i’m even impressed with this new way of eating for me but i have a question. Some time ago i heard about a drink, 1 avocado, 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk and a packet of sweetner, do you think this drink is any good for staying on keto? How about a 1 aday, i’ve been drinking bullet proof coffee almost everyday and enjoy it but how about both in a day or just one or the other? Your thoughts..

    • You’re so welcome! Thank you for the support and kind words :) As long as you’re using a minimal amount of a low-carb sweetener (such as stevia or xylitol), that drink should be fine! Sounds like a great snack to have and I’m sure it would be fine to have both drinks on the same day.

    Is there a difference between coconut oil and coconut fat?
    I live in Switzerland and both products are offered side by side on the same shelf in my local grocery store.

    • Hey! I’m not sure but I would assume that coconut fat is the same as coconut oil, since coconut oil is pure fat.

    Not sure where else to ask this, but not related to this video. I noticed that you have a link to Thrive Market on the side. I tried to order from there and it tells me that it doesn’t ship to Canada, I was wondering if you actually get stuff from there and how you do it…feel kind of silly asking but I haven’t been able to order.
