Video: What 6 months of Eating High-Fat, Keto Did To My Body

6-Months-of-High-Fat_Blog

The effect that a high-fat, low-carb, moderate protein, keto eating style has had on my body in the last 6 months.

6 months ago, I decided to try eating high-fat (low-carb, keto) in an effort to balance my hormones, heal my body AND lose the weight I’d packed on during hormone replacement therapy.

Before I made the switch, my naturopath and I ordered a bunch of blood work. We tested for everything under the sun, and it wasn’t good. My thyroid stimulating hormone was too high, my cholesterol was too low (cholesterol is what hormones are made of), testosterone was low, estrogen was low, sex hormone-binding globulin was high, everything was out of whack hormonally.

In a last-ditch effort, I went high-fat, keto, the only thing I hadn’t tried. I went in for a blood test last month and received the results before Christmas. They’re shocking.

In today’s keto video, I’m comparing the blood test results I received before going high-fat, keto with the results 6 months into living high-fat, keto and what ketosis has done to my health.

A must-watch if you’re currently following a ketogenic eating style or are interested in eating high-fat, low-carb, keto.

Adopting a high-fat, keto eating style has been the scariest thing I’ve ever done with my health. It required me to leap forward with very little footing. But I chose to eat keto because it was the only thing I hadn’t tried because nothing was working and I wasn’t okay with being unbalanced anymore.

  1. Hi Leanne,
I live internationally as an aid worker, currently in Iraq. I want to try your program but I don’t have access to a lot of fancy foods and supplements and I wonder if your program will necessitate me to import these things. I do have access to Coconut oil, milk, stevia, a wealth of vegetables, meats and dairy. But not coconut butter, hemp items, mct oil, etc… can I still do this program?

    Thanks,

    • Hey! You bet you can. As long as you have access to fats in some form, you will be a-ok

  2. I was considering trying this life style for my hormonal Imbalances but my issues are a bit opposite of yours – high testosterone, high estrogen, unexplained weight gain and I bleed basically all the time (actually having procedure done tmrw to check for uterine polyps) Would this diet still be a good idea?

    Thanks for your feedback!

    • Hey! I have seen many women in your place have great success with this eating style. In my program, Fat Fueled, there are suggestions on how to cater your keto eating style to help with high testosterone and high estrogen. Good luck!

  3. I love this and am so glad I found your site and channel. You are speaking to me on so many levels! I want to learn all you know!

  4. Hi there!
This was very interesting to watch/read. I currently having hypothalamic amenorrhea. I eat Paleo, which is reasonably high fat/low carb, but I wouldn’t think it is as high fat as you (you said 70-80%?). What would your day consist of, when you say you get most of your fat from animal fat? Would you be eating any dense carbohydrates? I know a lot of women have had success healing their hormones through adding back high carb foods?
    Really fascinated by this!
    Thanks :)

  5. Hey leanne, I am trying to respond to your comment reply to me and I can not figure out how to.
Thanks so much for the reply Leanne! I have the implanon and have been wanting the copper IUD but my doctor scared me out of it by saying the implantation hurts really bad and some people have heavy periods and cramping after the copper one. My periods are heavier with the implanon still and were much better before I was ever on it. I have a good pain tolerance and am probably going to make an appointment to get the implanon out and have the copper put in. Do you have any insight on how it is? I’ve never had kids which makes it a little more painful I’ve heard.

    • Ah yes, if you’ve never had kids it CAN be painful. If I had to chose a birth control, it would be the copper IUD…

      • The copper IUD Will give copper toxicity and increased intracranial hypertension wich is a devastating disease that mimicks a brain tumor.

  6. Hi!
Just going to start by saying I love what you do and your commitment to educating us about LCHF living :)
I have been on birth control for about 5 years now and have had an endless battle with my weight every sense. Until male birth control comes on to the market I am stuck taking it. My question to you is do you have any tips for someone on LCHF lifestyle and being on birth control? Is it possible to regulate hormones while on birth control? I hate it and can’t wait to get off of it, but for now it is not an option. Thanks so much!

    – Ashley Jo

    • Hi Ashley – a couple of my clients are on the copper IUD, perhaps that could be an option?
