When I first started doing this (it’s called intermittent fasting), it was pretty difficult to get through those 16 hours without eating something. After investigating this way and that, I learned that my ghrelin (a hormone that controls hunger) and leptin levels were throwing me off. Also, many women do not have success with eating this way because it throws off our bodies natural cycles. Understanding this, I started eating keto fats during the 16-hour window to send the signal to my body that “all was good”.   1. Leanne I think you just saved my life. I will be buying your book and the monthly diet recipes next month. I have been keto for about two weeks (bulletproof first) reading reading reading – came across your site. This is where it stops for me. Ok, so I over-did the carb up, went out had one heck of a taco meal with sis. Went home continued carbing til went to be. Woke up next morning and felt like dogpoopoo. Oh and I gained 2lbs 9ozs. As soon as I drank some water to flush the toxins and then had a butter coffee, and then ate at my reg time of 1:00, HFLCMP, and then ate at 6:00, HFLCMP, and then went to bed at 9:30 and slept til 5:00 (had been waking up at 4:00 every morning). I was back on track. But here is the real thing (I can refine all of the stuff did wrong), I have not felt this good for the last 5 or maybe 10 years! I want to thank you so much for all of your detailed information.

  3. How did you discover that your leptin and ghrelin levels were off? I’ve been doing Keto for 10 months (I love it!), but I feel like I am always hungry! I eat a lot of fat, and I have a carb-up meal about twice a week. I feel like I’m doing something wrong, but I don’t know what. Other than that, I love this eating style.

    • I figured it out because I was hungry right after meals and I was never hungry when it logically made sense to be hungry. Hmm, it might be helpful for you to Google “signs of leptin imbalance/ghrelin imbalance” to see if identify with them!   6. I just put my first batch of these in the freezer! The place where I buy my Natural Calm only had the Raspberry-Lemon flavor, so I used that. And I used vanilla stevia instead of plain. Can’t wait to test them once they’re frozen and let you know how they came out! Thanks for making your recipes so simple!! So often I look at recipes and I want to make them, but never end up actually doing it because they’re so labor intensive. Just one of the reasons I’ll be making lots of your recipes in the near future!! (I’m a recent Bulletproof convert.)
