So… you’ve decided to start juicing but you have no idea where to begin.
You gleefully saunter on over to your local department store to peruse the juicers, and discover that you can actually buy a juicer for only $40! Fabulous. Wonderful. Simple.
But then you do a little bit more research, and discover that there are so many different types of juicers, of all different price points, that you’re now confused, frustrated and paralyzed with indecision.
Inexpensive juicers are a fantastic start but they’re incredibly difficult to clean.
Your wheels start to turn. Should you get a centrifugal juicer or a masticating juicer? Or, should you splurge like you’ve never splurged before and buy the ultimate juicer on the planet: the Norwalk hydraulic press juicer — the Mac Daddy.
This is a big decision to make. You don’t want to make a mistake because mistakes cost mucho dinero (can I get a high-five from all my Spanish friends!).
Flash forward: you are now at the day that you actually take a risk, and buy the juicer that you think is right for you. You unpack it; set it up; and pat yourself on the back for being a rockin’ wellness warrior. You intend to recharge your health through juicing: one of the best ways to kick-start booty-shaking energy and arms-outstretched, smiling-at-no body aliveness.
You are all set to make your first juice. And, your taste buds are jumpin’ around in anticipation.
You throw this and that in the juicer, and little bit of ‘all right that sounds good, too’, and you ready yourself for the first sip. You know it’s gonna be good! Because you’ve put so much effort into planning and purchasing this fabulous appliance that you never even think that your first juice is going to be nothing but heaven in a glass.
You take a sip, and shout out, “BLEGH! This is awful!” Your juicing fantasy is officially squashed.
I know all about this reality. I would constantly create ‘fridge cleaners’: juices that included every type of vegetable matter that I could find in my fridge. And, I would drink the juice anyway — pinched nose and all. In my mind, juice was my medicine. And, boy…did it taste like medicine.
But here’s the good news. As the years went by, I started to realize…
There is a logical formula for creating a lovely, non-eye-watering juice.
And, I thought I would share this knowledge with you in the form of a lovely, little infographic. Have a peek at it, below.
Essentially, when creating a juice, all you want to do is either follow a kick-ass recipe or wing-it. If you’re gonna wing-it, just follow these guidelines: choose 1 leafy green, 1 juicy base, 1-2 sweet fruits or veggies, and if you’re feeling adventurous, try adding one optional oomph ingredient.
