  1. I have been doing Keto for a few weeks and am enjoying this change to my life, however since I keep I do not use all pork product, what other fats can I use in your recipes that call for either lard or bacon or any pork product?

    • You can replace bacon with crispy chicken skin, replace lard with tallow, ghee, coconut oil, or red palm oil. Any pork roasts, chops, etc., can be replaced with beef roasts, chicken thighs, etc. Hope this helps!

  2. Help, I cannot lose weight ! My husband and I have been on a keto diet for a month. He’s lost 12 pounds. I’m 5’3″ 165 63 years old. What can I be doing wrong? I haven’t lost half a pound. I don’t have thyroid problems and I am not onHRT anymore. Very discouraged.

  3. I just listened to this podcast, and it left me quite discouraged. Maria suggested that post-menopausal women who want to lose weight should have no more than 20 grams of protein per meal, and no more than 20 grams of total carbs per day.

I am in week 2 of the 30-day plan in Keto Beginning. Even though the macros for each day are fine, the total carbs are way more than Maria suggested. The protein is a little high, but that can easily be cut back.

I am 55, been through menopause (started in mid-40s after having my uterus removed in late-30s), and I have at least 40 pounds to lose. My scale has not budged either way in the past 10 days. The urine strips say I’m in ketosis, my energy levels are better, I’m starting to leave food on my plate.

I had hoped to get the Balanced Meal Plans after this 30 days, but now I’m not so sure. The sample plan I downloaded and tried did not have any nutritional information, but I loved how simple it was to follow. I want to have that simplicity, but I would have to calculate all the values for the food and then try to modify the recipes. That is too much work, and now I’m stressed again.

    Any suggestions?

    • Hey, Jacquie! I’m sorry to hear the podcast left you feeling discouraged. Keep in mind, although Maria suggested this amount based on her experiences, it’s still crucial that you listen to your body and adjust as needed. If you find that following the plan in The Keto Beginning makes you feel great, it’s a good sign you’re doing something right and perhaps the carb amounts are right for you. Additionally, if you’re feeling good and in ketosis, trust the process! Weight loss isn’t always instant.

Yes, you’re correct, the Balanced Keto meal plans do not include nutritional information. This program follows Fat Fueled where there is an intention to eat low-carb, high-fat but that we are not counting. We keep the plans in line with this by sticking to 15-25% protein and carbs are 30g to 75g in a day. This is influenced by carb ups. There are approximately 2,000 calories per day, including snacks. To keep the carb count lower, you’re welcome to skip the carb ups and replace them with regular keto meals instead.

      I hope this helps!

  4. Hi,

I can’t find the podcast Keto and Menopause on iTunes. The podcasts stop with #33.
Is there a link you could provide?

    Thanks so much!

    • This episode is from the No Sugarcoating podcast, the podcast I was on before I started The Keto Diet podcast. You should be able to find it under the No Sugarcoating podcast on iTunes :)

  5. This was a great podcast! Awesome information. Excited to follow Maria and read her books. I’m loving my Fermented Keto lifestyle Leanne. My mom is about to start her cancer treatment (trying my best to see it as a healing light as I am not a fan of chemo pharmaceutical’s) and I’m putting her on a Keto diet. I’ll be sharing how it goes on my blog! I share my cultured veggie recipes, health and lifestyle tips to heal and protect the gut so that inflammation and disease can be prevented. Hopefully it I will inspire others to eat the Keto way too…I’m going to be your greatest affiliate! Thanks again for the great work you are doing and for showing up as you. Big love, The Gut Girl

    • Thank you! :) I’m interested to see how keto helps your mom–I’ll have to check out your blog! Thanks for becoming an affiliate, so glad to be working with you!
