Leukemia (from the Greek leukos – white, and haima – blood) is a type of cancer of the blood or bone marrow characterized by an abnormal increase of white blood cells. Leukemia is a broad term covering a spectrum of diseases. In turn, it is part of the even broader group of diseases called hematological neoplasms. In 2000, approximately 256,000 children and adults around the world developed some form of leukemia, and 209,000 died from it.About 90% of all leukemias are diagnosed in adults.aka… it’s scary stuff. Thank goodness my Dad was able to push through, but unfortunately many people aren’t as lucky. Steph over at Steph’s Bite by Bite is hosting a bake sale on Friday May 13th to raise money for the San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon to benefit Team in Training and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I’ve donated my Cinnibun Oat Streusel Muffins and hope to raise loads of money from these babies.
