Transitioning to full time sailboat life, dealing with fear while learning something new, plus a bit of a life update, and so much more.
I put a lot of pressure on myself to work hard and execute to perfection immediately… but the reality of learning something new is that sometimes, mistakes will be made. I can either agonize over that reality, or try to get more comfortable with my discomfort by giving myself the space to grow.
Sailing has really driven this realization home — there have been so many times where I’ve been overcome with anxiety at just the thought of not knowing what to do, or not doing the exact right thing at the exact right time. But as I get deeper into this experience, I’m learning to give myself some space: to take a breath, remind myself that I am allowed to pause and think about how I react, and to go from there. It’s been really humbling, and I think this is a practice everyone can benefit from.
