POWER POSSE POST BY STEPHANIE CASEY

My two biggest passions in life are traveling and being healthy. And, it’s my love of traveling that led my husband and I to live in our RV and explore the country. Of course, you can imagine, that this lifestyle choice has its challenges – especially because living a healthy life is a high priority for me.

Guide on how to start keto.

I'm ready!

In today’s world, we all face multiple challenges when it comes to being healthy and more specifically; eating healthy.

Whether you’re in a large home, living in an RV (like me!), or traveling with a suitcase and a limited budget, here are a couple of tricks I’ve learned over the years that should help you stay on top of your healthy living game…

Stephanie

1. Stock up on healthy foods.

In my RV, space is valuable. I’ve learned that every nook and cranny is viable real estate that can be used to store healthy food items.  Whether you have small cupboards in your house (like I do), a small suitcase for your trip, or just a purse for the day, it’s essential that you use your space wisely and have healthy foods on hand when you need them.

If you have a suitcase with you, you could pack a large ziploc bag full of vegan protein bars, bring along a couple of packets of protein powder, baggies of gluten-free cereal, raw trail mix or dried fruits. None of these items take up too much room and having them with you will make a world of difference when you’re on the road.

2. Have a plan.

Sometimes it doesn’t matter how much healthy food I have in my refrigerator. If I don’t have a plan, I’m less likely to make healthy choices.

If you’re lacking in the planning department and could use some help coming up with healthy recipe ideas, I’d suggest you give the Healthful Pursuit meal plans a try.  Leanne takes all the stress out of healthy eating and makes living consciously a breeze!  If you like the recipes she posts here on her blog, you’re definitely in for a treat. The plans are gluten-free and dairy-free (with vegan, nut-free and grain-free options).

3. When you go out for the day – bring plenty of food.

Okay, this goes along with having healthy food on hand and planning ahead, but it’s a big one for me. Sometimes I leave the RV with a small sandwich for lunch and 2 hours later, the sandwich is gone and I’m in need of a second meal to hold me over. Now, I bring along a couple of options – a salad, vegetables sticks, a piece of fruit, a homemade snack bar, and whatever else fits in my bag. Being prepared like this takes just a couple of minutes before you head out the door and can save you time (looking for places to find food while you’re out exploring) and money (you won’t have to spend an arm and a leg paying for stuff you already have at home).

4. Make sure you’re getting the nutrients you need.

Unsure if you’re getting the right amounts of protein, carbs, healthy fats, fiber, and other nutrients you need? I highly recommend Leanne’s (free!) Food Journaling Challenge.

I’m always striving to become even healthier so when Leanne was looking for volunteers to test out her program, I jumped at the chance! When you follow Leanne’s blog you just know she knows her stuff. Her recipes are amazing, her stories are inspiring and her advice is empowering. I couldn’t miss this opportunity to work one on one with her and get her feedback on my eating habits.

During the program, one of my biggest concerns was that I was ALWAYS hungry. I also felt my mind was not clear and my memory was horrible. Leanne was able to pinpoint my problem right away (not enough protein!) and came up with solutions on how I could increase my intake without giving up my vegetarian eating style.

When I think back, even before I was vegetarian, I was hungry all the time. Even when I ate a carnivorous diet I didn’t eat a lot of meat and didn’t think much about what I was getting for protein. I started off being vegetarian by eating a lot more beans, but over time protein just slipped out of my diet and I just didn’t give it a second thought. Leanne’s ability to pinpoint what the issue was within seconds was pretty unreal. Just goes to show how important a nutritionist can be!

I took Leanne’s advice and increased my protein intake and I began to feel AMAZING within days. I’m able to think clearly again, my memory is back, and my mind is sharp.  Best of all, I’m not constantly hungry anymore!

I’ve learned that on my journey to being the happiest, healthiest version of me that sometimes a little help goes a long way.

Do you have any tips about how to stay healthy on the road or on the go? I’d love to hear them!

Have you tried Leanne’s Food Journaling Challenge?
