GIVEAWAY: Authentic Dominican Republic Cacao Powder

Congratulations to Megan – whose favorite chocolate recipe is microwave banana oat cakes by averie from love veggies & yoga, Stephanie who can be found snacking on raw cacao nibs, and Meredith – for winning 1 of 3 packages of cacao! Thanks for participating everyone. I’ll send the winners an email soon!

Morning :)

Guess what I picked up for us yesterday?

Three pounds of the best cacao powder I’ve ever tasted. Well, four pounds if you include the package I bought for myself.

Our plan was to go on the cacao plantation tour yesterday – to learn all about how cacao is harvested, processed, packaged, the whole bit… but both of us got ridiculously sea sick on Thursday and chose to take it easy yesterday instead.

We’ve agreed that when we’re asked what the most romantic part of our vacation was, we’ll tell people it was when we were holding hands getting sick over the side of the boat.

If that’s not love, I don’t know what is.

Anyways, back to our giveaway, and just in time for Christmas!

  21. Hi! I have never left a comment, but check your blog almost ALL the time. I really enjoy mixing it in my green drink in the morning and making my own chocolate. I mix raw coconut oil, raw cacao, and cinnamon. this past summer I made expresso chocolate with it :) I gave up coffee and it is a great alternative when needing an energy and mood booster.

Basically, I fell in love with it after traveling to Dominica and helped sustainable farmers harvest it! It is so cheap and fresh there, but really expensive here. They drink it in the morning as a “coffee” What a great way to start off your day!

  22. Oh yay authentic cacao! I love cacao in my smoothies sometimes or with frozen banana’s like ice cream in the summer (:

  27. I’ve made brownies with cocoa powder but have never tried a really good cacao powder like you have in your giveaway. Thank you for the chance to win such a quality product. Hope you feel better!

  28. I’m ashamed to admit that prior to finding this blog I did not engage in much baking. It’s most likely because your recipes are so easy and contain so few ingredients that I’ve ventured to make something besides one-pot soups. So I don’t have a favorite recipe for cacao powder. But I have recently discovered that I love adding a tbsp to my coffee. I add a couple spoons of palm sugar and some almond milk and it tastes just like hot chocolate to me. So that is my current favorite thing to do with cacao powder. It will probably change in a month or two when I figure out something new, easy and delicious.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and Kevin, Leanne!

  29. My most favorite cocoa recipe is Chocolate Sherbert! Fantastically dark and delicious!

  30. My favorite recipe using cacao powder is grain free Passover brownies. I originally used the recipe from Myra Kornfeld’s book Healthy Hedonist holidays. They came out great. Thanks for your great site!
