GIVEAWAY: Navan Foods Bean Pastas

By September 13, 2017

I thought it’d be nice to switch it up a bit and go with a pasta giveaway this month. Any objections? Good. I have no doubts you’ll like this one. I’m excited about this product because it’s not your everyday pasta, no, no. It’s a bean based pasta, meaning it’s low in carbohydrates, high in protein, filling, yet light on the tummy. Basically, you can have your cake pasta and eat it too. There was a time in my life where I was madly in love with soybean pasta. Gosh, I must have had it at least 3 times a week. Since learning about the affects that soy can have on our bodies; especially when one has a history of endocrine issues; I swore off the soybean pasta and began looking for other alternatives. When you read “swore off” instead read “the company went out of business and I was forced to live without my beloved soybean pasta for 3 years”. There were withdrawals. Don’t believe me? Ask Kevin. Poor guy. When Jennifer at Navan Foods asked if I would sample a bag of black bean spaghetti; their hottest product; I was more than happy to take one for the team. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Navan Foods, they’re an online store that offers one of the widest selection of foods that cater to special dietary needs. So awesome, right? If there’s one thing; besides gluten-free burgers, that gets me really excited, it’s allergen-free shopping! Okay… so on to what I thought of the pasta. Some specs:
  • Ingredients: black beans and water
  • $4.69 per bag gives you 4 servings
  • Vegan, gluten-free
  • High protein
  • Low carb
  • Ready in 8 minutes
The product is fairly low in fiber which I always have a hard time accepting. To pump up the fiber, I sprinkled garlic flavored flax onto the finished dish. Delicious and nutritious. Generally gluten-free pastas will go from al dente to overcooked in a matter of seconds. After cooking up 4 batches of this pasta, I can confidently say that you’re given more than enough time to catch the right consistency before it turns to mush. Another thing I loved? They make great leftovers! Have you ever had a rice pasta one night, packed it for lunch the next day and had either ridiculously dry or super soggy pasta? Ick.
